  • Lucy Peach performs solo

Fresh from the release of their debut recording, The Seals have planned a night of high quality music to celebrate at the Norfolk Hotel.
On Friday the 15th you'll want to make sure you're at The Norfolk for what is guaranteed to be a night of incredible music.

The night will kick off with a set from your favourite brother/sister duo, Patient Little Sister - with guitars, violins and vocal harmonies that are genetically designed togo together, they'll knock your socks right off!

Things continue with Perth's hottest ukulele talent, Lucy Peach. Fresh from releasing an EP of her own, Lucy will play tonight's gig solo, allowing the beautiful melodies of her songs to shine through.

The Big Old Bears then take the stage with their old timey brand of contemporary music that will have your toes a-tappin' and hands a-clappin'.

Neo-bluegrass act The Seals then take the stage to close out the night. With their unique instrumentation and their famed high energy stage show The Seals will raise a ruckus that will quite literally (figuratively) blow your mind.

Now that's a night of exciting music if ever you've seen it!
We're looking forward to see y'all there!

  • Lucy Peach solo and unplugged..

From the muddy depths of where a song begins to the light of day where it ends, most of us as an audience only get to see the end product of a song and never really know where it started or came from. The Melting Pot changes all that! A show where an audience is able to directly connect with a songwriter and song from its birth, and gain insight to the stories and tales of a songwriter in an intimate setting. Keeping the night moving, songwriters take each song in turn so that the audience is connecting with a different artist with every song.

On August 12th 6 artists come together at Fat Shan Records, Barrack Street Perth, to share their stories through song, Lucy Peach, Mama Boots, Tim Gordon, Hugh Jennings, KT Rumble and The Sun Orchestra, come armed with your ears wide open!

AN HOMAGE TO AVANT GARDE, FROM THE WAIST DOWN.

At the heart of Australia's underground performance set, Perth's prized powder-keg performance collective Voix De La Ville presents their latest incarnation "Hand Painted Legs" an homage to avant garde, from the waist down.Iconic silent star Clara Bow wore hand-painted legs during the 1920s. Like Bow, avant garde adornment accompanies the "IT" variety show on a journey of theatre art, drag, burlesque, cabaret and spoken word.

Infamous for far-out theatrical styling, Voix De La Ville is what Perth's performance scene aspires to embody...and it does so effortlessly. Taboo breakers sure to titillate and intrigue! Explicit material and nudity (promise).

    Headlining acts:
Axe Girl (U.K) - Edinburgh Fringe, The Old Vic.
Strykermeyer (Aus) - BAFTA awardee, Cannes Film Festival.
Ash Baroque (Aus) - Glastonbury, Madam Devilles.

Alongside Lucy Peach, Kodi Pendant, Petra Dish, VCA, Scott-Patrick Mitchell, Glamour Puss, Tranny La Peu & Special Guests.

  • Lucy Peach guesting at the LONG STRIDES LP Launch

Originally conceived to be a fatter and rockier beast, than the psych-fuzz-leaning debut, the second album has in fact become subconsciously informed by the pop form: T-Rex, Bowie, Chris Bell, The Beach Boys, and once again The Jesusand Mary Chain. A seemingly revolving door of personnel change may have been a contributing factor to this. Many songs that feature on the second album have been recorded two or three times with a different line-up. Frustrating but certainly necessary when examining the outcomes. As a result some cracking songs and versions (enough for at least another LP) have er… fallen down the cracks of time and mystery, lost in the zeros of ones of hard drives, where only the adventurous or insane audio engineers dare to tread (count me out - maybe!). Only myself Matthew Jenkins, the Captain - that as destiny has already predetermined, will go down with the ship - and Nick Di Lena, who mans the engine room, remain from the big bang that sparked the band’s formation. With our newest inductee – bass player extraordinaire – Jay Pickford, who also co-mixed and mastered ‘Lion Pride’ – we have evolved into a formidable live concern.

After a degree (or was it a pseudo-whiff) of success with our debut album ‘The Long Strides’ (Off The Hip Records) The second album ‘Lion Pride’ is complete and shock-horror the band is playing live once again.A wee conundrum for the band remains – being veterans of the local scene and having isolated ourselves from most of the local music industry and bands, our music is a snapshot of a band in a studio blown bubble.

The shape of the new album offers many similarities to the original model. Short and sweet songs served with a minimal of fat on the bone (not many satisfying analogies for vegetarians sorry!). However, more prevalent country, soul and gospel tinges float to the surface on several songs, whilst the proposed heavy-rock approach informs at least half of the material with a more pop orientated spin than was originally envisioned: the sometime simple joys of sonic construction. Fuzz lovers fear not, again we have delivered more fuzz than a roll of rapidly dissolving Fruit Tingles on an elephant sized tongue. Searing fuzz and wah leads still feature heavily, nestled lovingly against the Leslie spin of classic organ tones, muppet inspired drumming antics and… yet more fuzz. Ha! Synths and electronic noodles also feature to the fore on several songs, hinting at future directions beyond this body of work.

So, we are the Long Strides: music for timeless, serious rock music lovers. This is intelligent-dumb-ass music, retaining a sly offbeat sense of humour at heart and in mind. Slightly out of time, touch and tune with what radio Australia will assault (or insult) your senses with, but we wouldn’t and couldn’t have it any other way. Reading back through this, I realise that this is not so much a biography, but a manifesto. However and whatever: we sincerely hope you are entertained. Peace and love in 2012.
